Workshop Objective
To provide parents with essential knowledge and interactive tools to navigate digital parenting in a rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring their children’s online safety and rights.
Workshop Structure
I. Welcome & Icebreaker (10 Minutes)
Facilitator Introduction: After the brief introduction of the facilitator( Salik & One Child Psychologist) and the workshop’s purpose, the workshop will begin with an Icebreaker Activity called Word Cloud Exercise.
- We’ll be asking parents to describe their biggest concern about their child’s online activity in one word using a digital tool called Mentimeter.
- Results will be displayed live, creating an instant connection to shared concerns.


II. Understanding the Digital Playground (20 Minutes)
Session Title: What Are Kids Doing Online?
Interactive Discussion With:
- A rapid-fire quiz (e.g., “Which app is most popular among kids?” or “What percentage of kids use social media by age 13?”) to keep parents engaged.
- Sharing of insights on children’s digital habits, popular apps, and emerging trends.
- Highlighting risks and opportunities, emphasizing balance rather than fear.
III. Online Threats Simplified (20 Minutes)
Session Title: The Risks You Should Know About
Activity: Spot the Danger
- Showing real-life scenarios or screenshots (e.g., a phishing message, oversharing on social media, or a gaming chat).
- Parents will work in pairs to identify potential risks.
- We’ll discuss key risks like e lafda, grooming, addiction, and meme wars. After that, practical examples and solutions for managing these risks will be shared.


IV. Solutions for Digital Parenting (30 Minutes)
Session Title: From Risks to Resilience
Interactive Demonstration:
- We’ll showcase a step-by-step guide to set up one critical parental control or privacy feature (e.g., restricting in-app purchases or activating time limits on devices).
- A handout or QR code will be given for accessing detailed how-to guides later.
V. Responsible Sharenting & Online Etiquette (20 Minutes)
Session Title: Be the Digital Role Model
Interactive Game: Should You Post This?
- Showing examples of photos or posts parents might share (e.g., a child’s report card, vacation pics, or a birthday celebration).
- Asking parents to decide if it’s safe to post and explain their reasoning.
- Discussing Risks of oversharing and creating a digital footprint for children and modeling respectful online behavior for kids to emulate.


VI. Building a Family Internet Safety Plan (20 Minutes)
Session Title: Collaborative Digital Safety at Home
Activity:
- We’ll provide a simple template for a Digital Safety Agreement.
- Parents will brainstorm family-specific rules in small groups (e.g., screen time limits, platform usage, and reporting suspicious behavior).
- Facilitator will share best practices and encourage parents to involve their children in setting these rules at home.
Q&A Session
Facilitator will address lingering questions or concerns.

- QR code or printed handout with links to parental control guides, reporting online harm, and child-friendly apps.
- Emergency contact information for online safety helplines.
- Pledge Activity: Parents will take the “Digital Guardian Pledge” to actively ensure their children’s online safety.Â
